Hotel de Crillon, Salon of the Duc de Crillon

The Hôtel de Crillon, built in 1758 by Jacques-Ange Gabriel at the request of King Louis XV, was acquired in 1788 by François Félix de Crillon who gave him his name. In 1907, it was bought by the company of department stores and hotels of the Louvre, which decided to turn it into a Palace. In 1909, it became the first big "prestige hotel" in Paris. In 2010, it was sold to a member of the Saudi royal family who undertook a major renovation campaign.

We intervened in the Salon of the Duc de Crillon which currently composes one of the "signature suites" of the hotel. In the framework of a Bouygues shipyard and under the direction of affine design, we operated the restoration of the ornamental parts and the decorative painting of the accompanying woodwork, the objective being to recover the brilliance of yesteryear of this piece which was greatly devalued by its last repainting. Aline Asmar of Amman assured the decoration part of the project.

We restored the ceiling tablecloth painted sky and the Sham-box décor of the archivolt which had a lot of fouling and many gaps. Some of the lower panels were cleared from the scalpel as their eighteenth ornaments had been covered. Once the original decorations were brought to light, an important retouching and re-harmonization campaign was carried out in order to put them at the same level as the height panels which, on the other, required only a devernment and a classic restoration.

The rest of the décor (the cornice, the doorframes and the rest of the woodwork) has been repainted in shades of beige. The exceptional work of accented gold that came to rhythm all the mouldings and sculpted ornaments has been completely restored.
